This allows you to trade all products from a single, universal account, with cash automatically transferred between the accounts to satisfy margin requirements. IB's real time margin calculations allow you to understand the margin implications of any transaction before you transmit an order and continually enforce account limits, preventing trades if insufficient margin exists. View the margin impact before transmitting either on the Order Confirmation message or if you disabled this message, right-click on an order row and select Check Margin.

The Margin Impact section on the Order Preview window displays the current margin requirements, the change in value based on the order you are considering, and the post-trade result of the order on your account's Margin values — before you submit the order. The Portfolio window is a system generated tab to view your current portfolio holdings. Position values and market quotes update dynamically. In the Mosaic Portfolio tab, key account balances appear at the top of this window.

For clients with multiple accounts, strategies or models — the Account Window selector lets you display information for a specific account, strategy or model as well as view the aggregated information across all accounts, by using the dropdown selector at the top of the window.

Account Balances are segregated into separate securities and commodities account segments and totaled for a Universal Account SM. Cash is automatically transferred between the account segments to satisfy margin requirements. This separation is visible in the TWS Account window, with balances from each segment listed as well as totaled for your account. The Balances section shows your account balances for securities, commodities and in total. Customize this view to show only the values you want to see, with a check next to the parameters you want visible, then click the green minus - sign to collapse the section.

Margin Requirements - based on your current positions this section displays at-a-glance summaries of your initial and maintenance margin requirements. The "post-expiry" fields display the anticipated account margin value projected "at expiration" based on any soon-to-expire contracts in your portfolio. Values are highlighted in red at expiration. All other times the value is "0". To view just the projected margin or excess liquidity values for an expiring contract, double click the entry in the Account Information window.

If there is a margin deficiency in either your securities or commodities account, cash will be immediately transferred to cover the margin deficiency. These movements are done automatically to satisfy margin requirements. Portfolio Margin calculations are complex, specific to your account holdings and difficult to calculate manually — so if you are curious to see if Portfolio Margin could benefit you — use the TRY PM button in the TWS Account window to see how your current portfolio would look if you had a Portfolio Margin account.

Read more about Portfolio Margin. Market Value - Real FX Balances — displays total value of all positions, by asset class, sorted by currency. Open positions are grouped by currency and by asset class, with real time values marked to market. FX Portfolio Virtual FX Position - displays a "virtual" position — a specialized view created for FX traders and does not represent your actual cash balances for the associated currencies which can be found and traded in the Market Value section of the account window.

Please note that these do not reflect real-time FX balances, which can be found and traded in the Market Value section above. Portfolio — Portfolio section displays all assets in which you hold a position sorted by underlying, and updates every 3 minutes throughout the trading day and immediately upon a completed transaction. Your Portfolio information is displayed on the Portfolio tab in each of the IB trading platforms.

Trade Log displays reports for your daily executions. Trades are grouped by day, for the current day and up to the past seven days, including those trades completed during after-hours trading.

Isolate completed trades by ticker symbol with the Filter button, or choose to see a summary of all trades by underlying on the Summary tab. Alerts offer triggers and customizable options to generate notifications based on price movement, time and date, trading volume or the state of your margin cushion.

Define your Conditions to activate an alert and the Actions to occur when those conditions are met. Alerts send a pop-up message to your trading screen, an email message or a text message to your cell phone. Alerts can also trigger a pre-defined buy or sell order.

Set price and volume change activated alarms on a specific instrument to keep you alerted to key movements by playing a warning sound if this option is checked, and flashing the page and ticker row in Classic TWS and the price in the Quote Details window in the Mosaic. Set alarms using the right-click menu from a selected contract. There's no need to keep resetting an often-used alarm; simply elect to preserve the alarm between sessions.

Alarms will remain active when you log out, but you will only see them triggered when you are logged in. Use Alerts to have an email or SMS message sent your criteria are triggered.

All accounts are checked throughout the day to be sure certain margin thresholds are met, as well as after an execution is posted or a cash account transaction is completed. To help clients monitor margin deficiencies, TWS displays color-coded messages on the Account Screen and pop-up warning messages to notify customers that they are approaching their margin limits.

This feature allows you to take action such as entering margin-reducing trades instead of risking liquidation. An optional display for the top your trading pages — this customizable panel lets you select data fields from the Account window to monitor account values, quickly determine if the account has sufficient funds to put on a trade or if you are approaching margin limits.

Notices concerning exchange issues, changes in system status and other trading information are announced through bulletins with a flashing red notification along the top of the Trading window.

In the TWS Account window, real-time margin summary amounts are displayed. Real-time trade confirmations are generated for all executions. The Trade Confirmation report will list trade executions separately, by asset class. Trade confirmations are available for the entire previous calendar year and from the start of the current calendar year. Portfolio Tab The Portfolio window is a system generated tab to view your current portfolio holdings. Click on the Positions header to sort and group your positions by Type or by named Strategy.

Left Click the Positions header multiple times to run through the sorting choices. When using Portfolio Builder to maintain separate research driven investment strategies, you can choose to group the positions by your named Strategy or view as ungrouped, independent holdings. Real-time position values can also be viewed on any interactive market data row in Classic TWS.

Use this what-if feature to toggle the Mosaic Portfolio tab to a what-if mode to hypothetically add or remove positions from your existing portfolio and see how key performance metrics are affected. If you like the performance results from the hypothetical changes you can create and submit real orders to your actual portfolio. Excess Liquidity — Equity with Loan Value less Maintenance margin Lets you know if you have sufficient cushion to maintain your current positions or if you are approaching a margin deficiency and risking liquidation. Real-time actual currency balances display in the Cash field of the Market Value section.

All assets in each currency are combined to determine a currency net asset value which is displayed in the Market Value section Right click on a column header in the Market Value section to view balances in your base currency translated balances are italicized.

To quickly convert a non-base currency position back to your base currency, go to the cash balance line in the Market Value section, right click and select close currency position. All FX trades will create a virtual position when routed to IdealPro. If collapsed, the Portfolio page will NOT show currencies. If the FX Portfolio is displayed on the Account window, currencies with "virtual" positions will be visible in the Portfolio tab. Right click menu allows you to initiate a trade or set a position to Liquidate Last. Liquidate Last - You can manually select certain positions to Liquidate Last but only by segment. The system will generally attempt to liquidate other contracts within the segment first. So for example, if you mark a future as last to liquidate, it will be honored only if there is another commodity to liquidate.

It does not make any difference if there is equity value to liquidate, system will look to the segment that is deficient. Alerts Alerts offer triggers and customizable options to generate notifications based on price movement, time and date, trading volume or the state of your margin cushion.

Trade Confirmations Real-time trade confirmations are generated for all executions.
